We own one of the oldest windmills in Sifnos !

Windmill Bella Vista is located on a hill on the edge of the village of Artemonas, offering a truly magnificent view of the captivating Aegean Sea, the neighbouring Cyclades islands, the surrounding countryside of Sifnos and the local villages including the historic village of Kastro, the ancient capital of Sifnos.

The accommodation to rent at Windmill Bella Vista is made up of:studios, apartments and of course our beautiful and traditional windmill.
Studios: Accommodating up to 3 persons, our studios are of an open plan design with a double and single built bed, private bathroom and kitchenette.
Apartments: Our apartments will accommodate up to 4 persons. They have a separate bedroom with a built double bed; a living room with 2 built single beds, a kitchenette and private bathroom.
Superior apartment: Also accommodating up to 4 persons, the superior apartment at Windmill Bella Vista is similar to the standard apartment but for added privacy there are 2 separate bedrooms.
Windmill: Our traditional windmill is capable of accommodating 4 persons and has been completely restored using only traditional materials. On three levels, the windmill has two bedrooms with double beds and on the ground level is the fully equipped kitchen area and bathroom. Being in an elevated position at the centre of the Bella Vista complex, guests will enjoy the panoramic sea and countryside views from the veranda that surrounds the windmill.

For the comfort and pleasure of guests, facilities at Windmill Bella vista include a traditional café bar with outdoor terrace and breathtaking sea and countryside views.
Serving snacks and drinks throughout the day and is also suitable for your private wedding reception or baptism celebration.
Our swimming pool with hydro massage is a real joy during the hazy days of summer. You can enjoy a refreshing swim or just laze around with pool with a long cold drink from the pool bar.
Greek lessons for guests of Windmill Bella vista and can last anything from 1 to 3 weeks. The lessons are very casual and usually take place in the snack bar or someplace more private if required.
Photocopies of notes are provided as a reminder of what you’ve learned.
Manama is the name of our fine Arabian horse; guests with some riding experience have the opportunity of taking a ride along the traditional footpaths of Sifnos and enjoying the beautiful
landscape of Sifnos from a different prospective.
Other general facilities and services at Windmill Bella vista include: laundry facilities and daily maid service, internet/fax service and guest parking area.

CAFE BAR
In our traditional café - bar you can enjoy fine Mediterranean cuisine and the best delicacies from Sifnos. We serve a variety of Entrees, Salads, Main Courses and desserts using only the best local products including freshly caught fish and locally produced meat (lamb, goat and pork) home grown vegetables and traditional sweets from Sifnos.
To accompany your meal, we have a large selection of red and white Greek wines including the “Windmill Bella Vista” wine, pressed with grapes from our vineyards.
Or try our excellent “Raki” from central Greece accompanied with some local “mezedes” (entrees). Breakfast is included in the price of your stay at Windmill Bella Vista and is served either at the snack bar or on the private veranda of your room.
Breakfast is a rich continental including fresh tea or coffee (espresso, cappuccino, French filter, Nescafe or traditional Greek coffee), homemade Sifnian cheese (Myzithra and Manoura) sliced meets, fruit juice, eggs, toasted sandwich, cake, and Sifnian sweets. You can enjoy the excellent service of our snack bar all day, serving ice creams, a variety of coffee, fruit juices, drinks and light meals.

HISTORY OF WINDMILL BELLA BISTA

Windmill Bella vista dates back to the mid 18th. Century. It was owned and operated by my great grandfather who produced flour for making bread.Below the windmill there was a press room where olives were pressed to make olive oil and grapes from the vineyards were pressed for wine.
I can vividly remember my parents talking about the windmill and feeling very proud of its contribution to the social well being and nutrition of the people of Sifnos, especially during the time of the
Second World War.
Modern technology finally made the windmill redundant in 1950 and sadly through neglect, it fell into disrepair over the following years
It was in 1997 that I decided to restore and convert the windmill. I started by keeping the old stones and many of the fundamental parts of the working machinery and with much love and patience I was able complete an apartment with traditional character combined with contemporary standards of comfort. Year on year I added more studios and apartments until I fulfilled my dream of creating “Windmill Bella vista” a retreat for rest and relaxation, brought about with love and respect for the environment and for the traditional history of my family. I hope guests at Windmill Bella Vista will enjoy their stay with us and become a part of the new era for this particular Sifnos Windmill.

Apart from Windmill Bella Vista, there is also another complex for apartments - studios to let, just a few meters away from our resort. All apartments and studios have AC, television, private bathroom, kitchen, parking and many other facilities.

Area Information

Artemonas
Artemonas is a popular destination for Easter holidays as the atmosphere here is fantastic. Is also a nice place to stay if you want to be at the centre and having Atremonas as starting point to visit the rest of the Island.
According to the local lore, the village was allegedly the place where Artemis, The well-wisher, namely the goddess who protected those disembarking from the arriving ships, but also the one who brought about favorable resolutions to various troubles, was worshipped. Though this lore made for good stories, it is highly unlikely that is historically accurate, for in ancient time places were Artemis was worshipped were called Artemissia. According to a scholar the name Artemonas, or Artemon, relies on the same linguistic structure as that of Parthenonas, or Parthenon, which itself derives etymologically from Parthena meaning virgin, virginity being one of the attributions of Artemis.
One and a half kilometers north of Apollonia, Artemonas is one of the most picturesque villages of Siphnos, thanks to the neoclassical architecture of many of its houses and its beautiful gardens.

Sifnos Island, Greece
Sifnos, lies in the middle of the Cyclades islands between Serifos, Kimolos and Antiparos . The island is reached on the ferries which run on the Piraeus- Kythnos- Serifos- Sifnos- Milos- Kimolos line, and there are also sailings to other islands in the Cyclades.
Sifnos, has a lot of things to offer, even in the most demanding visitor. The imposing landscapes, the picturesque settlements like Apollonia, Kamares and Artemonas, the beautiful beaches like Platys Gialos, the medieval villages like Kastro and the old monasteries like Chrysopigi, taken together with island's excellent infrastructure, made Sifnos a very popular destination.
