Introduction
Syrou Melathron Hotel and Suites was built in the middle of
the 19th century (1856). It is undoubtedly a monument of the past, and its
figure dominates the St. Nicholas area, also known as Vaporia Syros,
near the Asteria bay. No visitor will not be deeply impressed by
the view of this Neoclassic structure. In 1993 it was transformed to an A
class hotel. Roof paintings (frescoes), wooden structures, boiseries and
all the decorative elements that remind the luxury of the past were given
a fresh breath.

"Queen of the Cyclades", stands on a naturally amphitheatrical site, with
neo-classical buildings, old mansions and white houses cascading down to
the harbour. The City Hall, where Miaoulis Square lies ringed with cafes
and with seating areas under palm trees, has a grandeur all of its own.
The "City of Hermes" has numerous magnificent churches, the most
interesting of which are Metamorphosis, Koimisis, St. Demetrius, Three
Hierarchs, Anastasis, Evangelistria and St. Nicolas. The Archaeological
Museum has a collection of notable finds and the Municipal Library
contains numerous interesting and rare editions.

The quarter of the town known
as Vaporia, where the sea captains lived, is of special interest. Along
its narrow streets stand numerous neo-classical mansions.
Syros Island, Greece
Syros is the capital of the Cycladic Island Cluster and is one of
the most developed Greek islands. It has been greatly influenced by
the Frankish rule and as a result, Syros has many beautiful
neoclassical buildings and manors, impressive squares and an amazing air
of nobility. Syros also possesses many breathtaking natural
features such as hills, plains, cultivated land and fields that
interchange with bays, sandy beaches and the blue waters of the Aegean
Sea. The island is also known for its many well-preserved historical
and archaeological sites and picturesque villages with whitewashed houses.
