Apanosyria
The “Apanosyria” is a cultural event organized by the Municipality of
Ano Syros. They include a wide variety of events, however they are
more traditional in character compared to Ermopouleia and take place
in the narrow alleys of a Medieval settlement.
They are held every two years during the summer, including folklore
exhibitions, theatrical performances, concerts and lectures. During
the events, in the small taverns of Ano Syros one can listen to
rebetiko songs in memory of the great local rebetiko composer Markos
Vamvakaris.

Ermoupoleia
Ermoupoleia is the grandest cultural event in Syros, worthy of
Ermoupolis’ rich history. They are held every summer from mid-July to
late-August and include several events like concerts, theatrical
performances, lectures, etc.

International Music
Festival of Cyclades
In one of the country’s most beautiful, historical and cosmopolitan
cities, with a spectacular, 19th century theater, the Apollon Theater,
it is no wonder that an International Festival of Classical Music
takes place here.
Reviving the musical traditions of the 19th century, the International
Music Festival of Cyclades aims at attracting eminent musicians from
Greece and all over the world. It has been held for two summers thus
far. In the summer of 2006, several famous musicians, conductors and
musical groups participated, such as D. Sgouros, L. Kavakos, the Royal
Chamber Orchestra of Denmark, N. Mpakopoulou, D. Karra, V.
Mendelssohn, D. Demenga, H. Schlichtiti, H. Solsky, the Melos Brass
Quintet, the Artis Piano Trio, etc.
The Festival’s logo was donated by painter Alekos Fasianos.

Organisation
The Festival is held under the aegis of the General Secretariat of
Olympic Development of the Ministry of Culture, with the participation
of the Cultural Center of the Municipality of Ermoupolis.
The production of the festival is carried out by the non-profit
organization Classical Music Network (CMN), which was founded by
musician Giannos Margaziotis, the Festival’s artistic manager.
